Suzuki has looks to match the name

Compact SUVs reach a new level.

Compact SUVs reach a new level.

SUZUKI has taken the world of compact SUVs to a new level with the release of its Vitara Sports powered by Boosterjet, the cutting edge technology that is behind the latest advances for the company that prides itself on its small-vehicle expertise.

The Vitara Turbo is the first Suzuki to benefit from the new technology behind Boosterjet and it is going to turn a lot of heads.

This 1.4 litre 16-valve direct-injection Boosterjet Turbo offers 103kW of power at 5500 rpm and 220Nm of torque between 1500 and 4000 rpm. This delivers a healthy dose of instant power and is composed and assured on the road at 100kmh, with handling that is top class.

The engine’s perfect partner is the six-speed automatic transmission, which is slick and smooth with no lag.

The Vitara Turbo sits perfectly within the Suzuki game plan of smaller, faster, lighter and cleaner — with low emissions.

You can add cheaper to that. Despite the power available, the Vitara Turbo will deliver amazing fuel economy of only 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres.

As an added bonus, the Vitara Sport is also a surprisingly useful off-roader thanks to Suzuki’s Allgrip AWD available on all- wheel-drive models.

A full complement of safety features comes through seven airbags and a suite of electronic systems including four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, EBD, electronic stability, hill descent control, topped off by the increasingly popular reversing camera that has become par for the course for improving rear view on quality vehicles.

Specifications also include sat-nav, Bluetooth, speed-limiting cruise control, climate air conditioning, self-levelling, automatic wipers, automatic halogen multi-reflector and LED projector headlights and Apple CarPlay.

Other features include keyless entry, a push-button start, aluminium pedals, red stitched leather-suede upholstery, red vent louvre rings and red instrument surrounds and meter rings.

A high driving position and ergonomically-designed interior seats make the cabin a pleasant place to be.

Suzuki has been in the business of producing quality small vehicles for getting on to half a century — and it shows. But even for them the Vitara Turbo is something else indeed.

Call a vehicle “Sport” and it has to look the part.

The Vitara Turbo does that with 17 inch black alloy wheels, a unique front grille, satin silver door mirrors and red projector headlamps, complemented by a full range of single and two-tone body colour options.
