A LONG list of enhancements has given real thrust to the launch of the new Holden Colorado which has seen the rugged pick-up given some extra polish while retaining all the qualities that made it a big seller.

The Holden design team has put the Colorado under a microscope and after a transformation a magician would be proud of have produced something really out of the box.

There is now a five star ANCAP safety rating right across the 20 plus variants in the Colorado range. A rear view camera is now standard. New levels of active safety including forward collision alert, lane departure warning and front park assist on selected vehicles.

Sitting behind that large bull bar, you get a real feeling of security and the knowledge that you are driving something with a good hold on New Zealand.

A series of styling enhancements and a complete redesign of the interior featuring an all new dash, cluster and trims has lifted the comfort levels of the Colorado.

The ride and handling have got extensive attention with new electronic power steering co-developed with extensive Holden engineering input, new body, engine and transmission mounts and new tyres right across the range. Producing a big pick-up that drives like a car is the Holy Grail of this sector of the motoring world and the Colorado has reached that level.

Noise and vibration have been reduced to the level where it is so quiet that you almost have to cock your ear to make sure the vehicle has actually started. The upgraded wind noise package completely eliminated the howling easterly during the test drive.

The Colorado range has the powerful 2.8 litre diesel engine with its 147 kW of power at 2000 rpm between 440 and 500Nm of torque depending on whether you are driving an automatic or manual model.

The Colorado MY17 has 3.5 tons of towing power supported by trailer sway control.

The MyLink infotainment system is compatible with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto TM which have new large colour touchscreens with Bluetooth streaming, voice recognition for Apple or Android and digital radio. Selected models have embedded satellite navigation, remote engine start, tyre pressure monitoring and rain sensing wipers.
