Ute’s interesting bloodlines

FAVOURABLE reviews for its Tunland ute have continued to boost the Chinese carmaker Foton as it continues to make progress in New Zealand.

The latest came in New Zealand 4WD magazine, which described the Tunland as offering even better value for money with improvements made to it.

The magazine says the Tunland is a good- looking practical vehicle that is good on the road and great fun off it.

It ends by describing the Tunland as incredible value for money.

The magazine’s review echoes recent comments from people who have bought one.

One of the points made by 4WD magazine is the way the Tunland uses reputed and established brands for all its major drivetrain elements.

Heading this is the Cummins diesel engine. Cummins is world-renowned for durability, power and performance.

There are other major brands involved.

Getrag is the world’s largest supplier of transmission systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. All Foton vehicles are fitted with a Getrag transmission.

BorgWarner is a worldwide producer of industry components and parts, primarily known for its powertrain products. The transfer case in the Tunland 4WD is supplied by BorgWarner and allows shifting between 4x2 high and 4x4 high on the fly at speeds of up to 80kmh.

Dana is a global supplier of drive train, sealing and thermal management technologies. All Tunland vehicles are fitted with Dana axles and differentials, and a rear limited slip differential.

Bosch is a German multinational engineering and electronics company with core products in automotive components including brakes, controls, electronics and steering systems. All Fotons are fitted with Bosch electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, a traction control system, hill descent control and hydraulic brake assist.

ZF is a worldwide supplier of driveline and chassis technology, primarily known for design, research and development and manufacturing activities in the automotive industry. ZF is used to enhance motion and mobility in Fotons.

The use of these top-line component manufacturers is intended to give power, reliability and quality in a vehicle that can be trusted to perform.

Foton says its DNA is world-class.
