A GALLERY at Tairawhiti Museum will ring with the sound of opera on Sunday when Pasquale Orchard and Wellington baritone Joe Haddow perform as part of the Sunday Concert Series.

Orchard and Haddow are aspiring opera singers in their honours year at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. Both recently starred in a sold-out performance of Janacek’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen.

Orchard recently performed in the Eternity Opera Company’s Marriage of Figaro, and in Festival Opera’s production of Bizet’s Carmen.

Haddow has performed as soloist with many choirs in Wellington, including the Orpheus and Kapiti choir. For their Gisborne performance the two singers will perform operatic and musical theatre numbers that range from Puccini to Andrew Lloyd-Webber.

“We both have quite big voices,” Orchard told The Gisborne Herald in January.

“Joe has a really earthy, warm, bass baritone which marries in with my soprano sound. We balance well.”
