From alps to hills in seven days at WMT

COMING SOON: The Sound of Music is one of three shows to play at the War Memorial Theatre within seven days from Saturday. Picture supplied

WITHIN a space of seven days from Saturday the War Memorial Theatre will be alive with not only the sound of music but Maori showband parodies, then more comedy but with yodelling.

In their Union Jack kilts and top hats The Maori Side Steps hit the stage with their tongue-in-paparinga styles mixed with smooth crooniness on Saturday (October 7). The song Living Next Door to Maoris, a parody based on British pop singer Smokie’s 1979 hit Living Next Door to Alice, is indicative of this groundbreaking act’s direction.

The true story of governess Maria who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children when she reintroduces them to music plays again in the popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music on Monday (October 10).

Then heading this way as part of their Heading for the Hills tour on Friday (October 13) the Topp Twins bring original country songs, character comedy, burlesque innuendo and audience participation. Book early to avoid disappointment.
