Powerful single from Broken soundtrack released

WATCH WITH TISSUES: Auckland singer/songwriter Rodney Finau plays a ballad-like intro to the single Broken on piano.
IN THE GANG HQ: Tokomaru Bay rapper and vocalist Josh Andzue is Mad Bulls gang member Jack in Broken. He performs under the name Kwick Andzue in the movie’s music video.

LYRICS in the single from the soundtrack of the movie Broken work as a “shadow” of Logan, the lead character in the film, say producers.

The single reflects on the themes of forgiveness, despair and hope in the movie in which the former Mad Bulls gang leader has left the gang life to raise his daughter Tori.

When Tori is murdered by another gang in town, Logan struggles with himself as tensions escalate towards a gang war.

The powerful song Broken opens with Auckland singer/songwriter Rodney Finau playing and singing a ballad-like intro on piano at the beach.

Aerial shots of East Coast surf and short snippets from the film add drama to the single’s music video.

“I’ve tried all my life/ I’ve tried everything,” sings Finau, who also performs in Auckland’s City Impact Church band.

“But I’m waking up feeling like I’m broken again/ I’ve been through the fire/ I’ve fallen down bleeding/ but I just keep believing knowing this ain’t the end.”

The beat in the single and music video switches up into a piano-driven hip-hop tune performed by former Tokomaru Bay man Josh Andzue.

Andzue, who also plays Mad Bulls gang member Jack in the movie, is a Brisbane-based rapper who goes by the name Kwick Andzue. His part in the music video is laced with snippets from the film.

The song builds to big skin-tingling orchestral chorus, backing vocals and a climactic key change that will break your heart.
