Behind youuuuu

Cinderella.

The silly season is almost upon us and leading the way is touring company Operatunity’s pantomime, Cinderella.

The English tradition of the panto involves overacting, cross-dressing, slapstick, terrible jokes and audience interaction.

Will Cinderella get her Prince or will all attempts be foiled by her ugly sisters played by Bonaventure Allan-Moetaua and Karl Perigo? The plot is familiar enough but the panto tradition involves madcap plot twists.

“It’s crazy,” says director Susan Boland who wrote the script and adapted music from music hall, musical theatre and Victorian comic opera composers Gilbert and Sullivan.

“The more ridiculous the panto is the more fun it is. Our show includes Ronald Rump, a character who has taken over the land of Muck and fired the royal family. The royal family has Prince Percy who is turned into a donkey to avoid extradition. “Put on your silly hats and come and have a laugh.”

Operatunity presents Cinderella - A Christmas Pantomime, War Memorial Theatre, Wednesday, December 5, 11am. Tickets from Stephen Jones Photography or ticketdirect.
