Dial U for Unity

Spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of English film director and master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast in Joe Landry’s Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play.

For her directorial debut with Unity Theatre Gina Ferkins will hold auditions this month for the play’s multiple parts.

With classics such as The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is a triple feature, complete with vintage commercials, that recreates a daring train chase, a serial killer’s ominous presence, and a devastating explosion.

The production calls for people who can possibly portray more than one character with their voice. Also needed for the show are people to do stage sound effects such as squeaky doors, dropped plates and even a donkey, only with items that could be found in the 1940s.

On a set suggestive of a 1940s radio station, the Unity Theatre production will be staged in September.

Auditions for Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play will be held at Unity Theatre, 209 Ormond Road, on Sunday, June 30 at 3pm. For more information message Gisborne Unity Theatre on Facebook or contact the director at t.g.ferkins@gmail.com
