Public meeting for Te Urewera on Monday

A NEW set of objectives and policies for Te Urewera will be introduced in a public meeting in Gisborne on Monday evening.

Tuhoe Te Uru Taumatua CEO Kirsti Luke and Te Urewera Board chairman Tamati Kruger will discuss Te Kawa o Te Urewera, a document that sets objectives and policies for all of Te Urewera, including Lake Waikaremoana.

Te Kawa is the guiding document for the Te Urewera Board, and its aim is to achieve the purposes set out in Te Urewera Act.

It establishes clear and connected principles and invites tangata whenua (people of the land) and manuhiri (guests) acting in unity to care for Te Urewera.

The public meeting is hosted by Waikaremoana Boating and Fishing Association. It will take place at 7.30pm at the Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club, following the association’s AGM at 6.30pm.
