A FEDERATED Farmers delegation spelt out farmers’ views at the final regional freshwater plan hearing in Gisborne on Monday.

“We feel we gave the commisioners a good understanding of the challenges farmers face with this proposed new plan in its current form,” said past provincial president Hamish Cave.

“We feel we were well heard. It was a positive hearing.”

Feds senior policy adviser Debbie Bidlake said thatthey made it clear the status quo was not an option.

“But the devil will be in the detail,” she said.

“Farmers will need to become more engaged and some will need to pull their heads out of the sand, especially when it comes to farm environment plans.”
