Keri Henare wins in Australia

GISBORNE woolhandler Keri Henare kept her famous family name to the fore at Australia’s top crossbred shearing competition on Saturday in Warrnambool in south-western Victoria.

She won the open woolhandling title in a surprise win.

Henare, a cousin of World champion Joel Henare, beat Alexandra sisters Pagan Karauria and Larnie Morrell in the final.

She won the title with a score of 4.87 points ahdead of Pagan Karauria on 7.93 points.

Her win was part of a near cleansweep by Kiwi shearers and woolhandlers at the championships, with New Zealanders winning the Open, Senior and Intermediate shearing finals, and the Open and Senior woolhandling finals.
