ODD ONE OUT: The weekly Friday sheep sale at the Matawhero saleyards was cancelled yesterday due to a lack of numbers. You could say it was the odd one out, a bit like this picture. File picture

FOR the first time in a while, the weekly Friday sheep sale at the Matawhero saleyards was cancelled yesterday due to a lack of numbers.

“The rain and good grass means farmers are hanging on to their stock. It’s a very good situation for them,” an industry spokesman said.

The sale last week attracted a tiny yarding of only around 200 head.

“It’s not a bad thing, because the stock will have to come forward for sale at some stage. We need some more mouths to feed to eat all that good grass.”
