Veteran Wally Moore set a cracking pace.

ANOTHER good sale took place at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday with store lamb values firm on the last sale two weeks ago and the breeding ewe prices similar to the earlier ewe fair.

The two regular auctioneers were absent, so it was “back to the future” for veteran Wally Moore, who called the bids and he set a cracking pace for the sale.

A total of 2200 sheep were sold — 94 prime ewes, 58 prime lambs, 917 store lambs, 11 stud rams and 1113 ewes, including capital stock from Hugh and Kathy McMillan at Rere. The prime ewes sold from $109 to $128, and averaged $116.

Prime lambs made $95 to $144, and store lambs from $58 to $115. Store ewes for fattening sold from $70 to $95.
