Anthony Hughes and Bully have wins in the First Maiden sections.

Anthony Hughes and Bully gave a good account of themselves in the Waipaoa sheep dog trial last Friday and Saturday, with wins in the first maiden sections of both the zig zag hunt and the straight hunt. Pictures supplied
Ben Rodgers and Frank finished fifth in the striaght hunt with a solid 95.5 points score.

A double to Allen Irwin and his dog Dan from the Kanakanaia in the hunts was the highlight at the Waipaoa Sheep Dog Trial Club’s trial last Friday and Saturday, along with a good win to Annie Flood and Judge, from Te Karaka, in the short head and yard.

Young Ruie Bridge from Manutuke and Max took out the long head.

Waimata’s Merv Utting had three dogs in the short head and yard top five.

“Trial numbers were a bit down on the usual lineup at Waipaoa, but it was still a good trial,” said dog trials commentator Ross Buscke.

“They had mixed-age ewes on the hunts, and they tend to have a mind of their own, but overall they worked pretty well.

“Credit to the Waipaoa Station cadets for the way they again competed and helped run the trial.”
