Firmer prices in a smaller yarding

A MUCH smaller yarding was presented this week at the Matawhero sheep sale yesterday with only 1690 head compared with last week’s 5000 lineup, and consequently prices were firmer for the 1520 store lambs.

There were 11 prime lambs which sold for $110, $130 and one heavy individual for $168.

Thirteen dog tucker rams sold for $55.

The 77 prime ewes sold from $121 to $141 and 11 prime wethers from $129 to $141.

Top price in the store lamb pens was $115 for 173, well presented, ewe lambs from DA Richardson and Co at Motu. The 34 store ewes sold from $40 up to $98.50.

Best prices — Male lambs: Burnage Station (Matawai), 30, $113.50, 130, $93, 11, $64; Whareopaia Station (Tolaga Bay), 24, $112, 5, $71; CP Healey (Pehiri), 10, $100.

Ewe lambs: DA Richardson and Co, 173, $115; CP Healey, 200, $107.50, 60, $103; Whareopaia Station, 107, $100, 39, $106, 43, $80; Burnage Station, 118, $91.
