Kanakanaia store lambs the focus at Matawhero

THE major focus of attention at yesterday’s weekly Matawhero sheep sale was on the large consignment of very well presented 2316 lambs, sired by Sufftex rams, from Waitangi Terraces Station at Kanakanaia.

Prices ranged from $120 for their first pen of 232 heavy male lambs down to $57 for 38 small, mixed sex lambs.

All store lamb prices were firm on last week’s sales. There were only three prime ewes and nine prime lambs yarded and they sold at recent values. Rain in recent days and forecasts of more to come has obviously raised buyer confidence.

Best prices — Male store lambs: Waitangi Terraces Station, 232, $120, 611, $111, 167, $95.50, 36, $75; Raroa Station (Tolaga Bay), 84, $113, 87, $90, 58, $64.

Store ewe lambs: Waitangi Terraces Station, 260, $110, 661, $98.50, 214, $93, 97, $82. Ewes with lambs at foot (all counted): R.V and R.K Flyger, 8 ewes and 12 lambs, $93.
