Jock was named the overall top junior cadet this year and he said he would not have been able to do it without the support of his parents Kim and Wendy, and the rest of the family.

“I remember dad and I had a chat about my goals before I left for Smedley, and getting the top junior award was one of those goals, so it feels pretty special to have done it.

"I just concentrated on trying to put a foot in the right direction each day.”

Jock intends to go shepherding once he finishes at Smedley.

“North or South Island, it doesn’t matter. From there I hope to work my way up through the ranks, to be a farm manager one day.”

He said he really appreciated the support of the Smedley staff and his course colleagues this year. Picture supplied
