Keen demand for store lambs at year-end sale

JUST over 2600 sheep were presented for sale in the final sheep sale of the year at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday, including 2454 store lambs.

Totangi Station at Ngatapa sent in 1406 hogget lambs, most sired by a black face ram.

The store lambs were generally lighter than in recent weeks, but were still keenly sought after, and prices remained sound.

The top price for them was $127.50 for 80 male lambs from Kaitoto Station at Tikitiki.

R.R and M.A Sherratt sold seven prime lambs for $150.

Prices for prime ewes remain very strong with a pen of 10 prime ewes from Mahurangi Ltd at Wairoa fetching $169.

Linburn P/S in the Waimata Valley sold a pen of 48 healthy, shorn ewes with one year mouths for $145.50. Their pen of 21 store ewes for fattening made $115.
