Waipaoa cadets take big year in their stride

Waipaoa Station farm cadet training trust’s 10 students have had a great year, training manager Cristalle Sligo says.

The five senior and five junior cadets completed their year with a prizegiving in the Moonlight Station woolshed on Friday, December 21.

“It has been a year of change and transition for these young cadets,” she said. “But they have taken everything in their stride, and it will contribute to the well-rounded individuals they have become.”

Prizewinners

Top senior cadet: Jack Ellingham. Top junior cadet: Matthew Austin.

Biggest transition award for growth in stature and character: Toby Proude.

Top dog awards: Toby Proude (senior) and Ollie Holst (junior).

Academic awards: Jacob Maxwell (senior) and Owen Pengelley (junior).

Senior stockmanship award: Jacob Maxwell.

Junior practical award for general farm work: Matthew Austin.

Hostel awards: Toby Proude (senior) and Owen Pengelley (junior).

Wool and shearing award: Toby Proude.
