Buyers bid freely in first sale

JUST 972 head were yarded yesterday at the Matawhero saleyards as the Friday sheep sales year resumed.

Values were similar to the December 21 sale.

Almost all the sheep were woolly store lambs, the best of which will need very little time to finish for slaughter.

Best price in the store lambs was $131 for 32 male lambs from Bushy Knoll Forest Ltd at Hangaroa.

There was just a small bench of buyers, but they bid freely, and the sale was over in 30 minutes.

A pen of 25 two-tooth store ewes, most of whom had reared lambs as hoggets, sold for $150.
