Lift in average store sheep price

There was an autumn feel to the weekly Matawhero sheep sale yesterday, where a larger number of buyers attended and a total of 1517 sheep were sold.

Recently sown grass is flourishing, grapes are being harvested and store lamb prices are strong elsewhere, resulting in the average store lamb price lifting here by $20 from last week’s sale to $119.

In the prime pens seven large black face lambs sold for $140 for N.Timmins at Patutahi. B.R.N. Rolls sold four huge black face ewes for $172.

Top price in the male store lamb pens was $132 for 168 good sized cryptorchid lambs from Burnage Station at Rakauroa.

The wool industry should take heed because Wiltshire (self shedding) ewe lambs were in hot demand, and two pens from Arakihi Station at Tolaga Bay sold for $152 and $132, to be used for breeding.

Mutuera Station at Ngatapa sold 42 attractive 2-tooth romney ewes, seven for $170 and 35 for $169.
