Larger yarding in a ‘steady’ sale

PRICES remained steady at yesterday’s Matawhero Sheep Sale, despite the larger yarding — 2714 in total.

A single heavy ewe in the prime pens sold for $186, a total of 12 ewes made an average of $130.

The 65 prime lambs averaged $128 and the best price was $145 for a pen of 21 woolly lambs from Waimata Dairies Ltd.

The top price for the 2630 store lambs was $141 for 118 heavy, freshly shorn male lambs from P. McKenzie at Tolaga Bay.

The average price this week was $106, down from $119 last week, because of the greater number of light, low condition lambs.

The sole pen of 7 store MA ewes sold for $90.50. Buyer confidence should be boosted by this week’s rain.
