Wrights Vineyard and Milltons have featured in the 2019 New Zealand Organic Wine Awards with a gold and a silver medal for their Chardonnay wines.

A Gold medal was awarded for Wrights Reserve Chardonnay 2018, following on from their Reserve Chardonnay 2017 Gold last year.

“This is a new vintage release, whereas our 2017 Wrights Reserve Chardonnay won gold last year,” owner Geoff Wright said.

Only three Chardonnay Golds were awarded.

“It’s great news for us and the region as we cement our Chardonnay brand in New Zealand again with our region’s upcoming celebration of Chardonnay with the Gisborne Chardonnay Affair.”

“It is very rewarding to be receiving these accolades. We work extremely hard in our certified organic vineyards to ensure we get the optimum grapes,” Mr Wright said.

“We are fortunate to be growing in a very unique appellation of Ormond Valley or, as we like to refer to it, one of Gisborne’s ‘Grand Cru’ vineyards.”

A silver was awarded for Millton’s Opou Chardonnay 2017, following on from their Gold last year.

  • The inaugural Gisborne Chardonnay Affair, supported by Tairawhiti Gisborne, is a two-day event which starts on International Chardonnay Day on Thursday, May 23. The event has been organised by Gisborne Classic Chardonnay — a group of local growers and producers.
