Prices firmed in a smaller sale

Only 856 sheep were yarded at the weekly Matawhero sheep sale yesterday and the store lambs were mostly end of season ‘clean up’ lines from hill country properties.

Consequently those lambs were medium and longer term prospects for fattening.

However there were plenty of buyers present and prices firmed. One pen of seven prime ewes from Matawai Deer Park sold for $129.

Top price of $130 for store lambs went to a medium sized, well conditioned and beautifully shorn line of 144 ewe lambs from Kerley Agriculture Ltd at Kanakanaia.

The best price of $124 for 34 male store lambs went to Paparatu Station at the top of the Waingake Valley.

Two pens of MA ewes, from Robert Bracken at Matawai, run with ram from April 4, sold for $130 and $111.

Matawai Deer Park sold 22 two-tooth rams from $90 to $92.
