Great signs for anglers competing in major fishing comps over summer.

Fishing off No Xcuse yesterday, Robbie Lewis landed a 45 kilogram kingfish at Bank Rock. Gisborne-Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club chairman Craig Miller said while it was not eligible for any club record because it was caught on an electric reel, it was the biggest kingfish caught in local waters. The club record was 40 kilograms. Mr Lewis said he uses the electric reel because he really only has the use of one of his arms. He caught it on 37kg line and took 20 minutes to land.
The day before, Doug Gray, fishing on Tzer Fishing Charters, caught a 59 kilogram bass. He hooked it in 120 fathoms and while it is not the biggest bass the club has weighed, it is the heaviest this season.

TWO huge fish have been caught in Gisborne waters this week, a good sign for anglers who will compete in major fishing competitions over the next two months.
