Cancelled after skipper decides conditions impossible to tender passengers ashore.

THE final cruise ship visit of the season was cancelled this morning after the skipper of the Emerald Princess decided conditions made it impossible to tender passengers ashore.

The Eastland Port pilot boat went out to meet the ship at 7am but the ship’s captain decided to pass Gisborne by.

“The captain gave his apologies and said he was sad not to be able to complete this visit to ‘a beautiful little port’,” an Eastland Port official said.

“He wanted us to pass on his apologies to those involved in the visit ashore.

“He said it would be impossible to tender in the conditions and said he looked forward to visiting again in the future.”
