THE name of the woman who died in Friday night’s pedestrian fatality in Cobden Street was not expected to be released until later today, when all next-of-kin had been informed.

Police and paramedics were called to the Cobden Street-Waitangi Street corner where the accident happened just after 11pm on Friday night.

“The woman was aged 33 and was from Gisborne. We hope to be able to release her name later today once all family members have been informed,” police said.

“The woman died at the scene of injuries she sustained in a collision involving a car.”

Police said the driver and passenger from the vehicle had assisted them with their serious crash inquiry.
