Pregnant woman in hospital after accident

EMERGENCY services were called to a two-car crash in Gladstone Road yesterday afternoon and there was concern for the wellbeing of a pregnant woman in one of the vehicles.

The incident happened just after 1pm yesterday on the corner of Desmond and Gladstone roads.

“The pregnant woman, aged 29, was checked over at the scene and then transported to Gisborne Hospital for observation,” a St John ambulance spokesman said.

“No one else in the vehicles needed any treatment.”

The west-bound section of the main street at the crash location was closed for about 20 minutes until the scene was cleared.

The driver of a truck had what was described as a lucky escape on Wednesday afternoon in a crash at Mangatuna on State Highwy 35 north of Tolaga Bay.

The Herald understands the driver escaped injury. Emergency services were not called to the crash.
