Still no sign of Ray Taunoa

THE whereabouts of Gisborne man Ray Taunoa continues to remain a mystery four days after the 54-year-old told a family member he was still alive.

It was first feared he had drowned in the Wairoa River.

Taunoa was the subject of an intense search last week after his car was found abandoned near the river with footprints leading to the river.

He called a family member on Friday to say he was alive.

Police confirmed Taunoa is still alive and they have made several appeals now for him to give himself up.

Taunoa is wanted by police in relation to alleged criminal matters, the nature of which have so far not been disclosed.
