Street food festival planned for CBD

Street Food Festival

SPRING fiesta of food and entertainment is coming to Gisborne’s city centre this Labour Weekend.

The October 22 fiesta is being developed by Heart of Gisborne, to bring vibrancy to the city at a time when many visitors are in the city for the long weekend.

It is to be held in Grey Street.

“The concept of this festival is to share the food love inside our CBD with large crowds that enter our city, as well as offering our community a fun, family environment,” said Heart of Gisborne event and marketing manager Lana Davy.

“It also fits in with our vision to support our members by developing a vibrant and inviting event in a controlled, safe, secure and friendly environment."

The plan is to close Grey Street from Gladstone through to Childers roads, including the Grey Street carpark through to Bright Street, making it a controlled safe area.

“This closure of Grey Street allows for creative use of this space to enhance the offering from the cafes and restaurants. This will allow their hospitality to spill out into this unique space. We also intend to utilise the Grey Street carpark as a ‘Craft Market Kids Zone’.”

Existing Heart of Gisborne members are invited to set up stalls in the area.

“We encourage all our hospitality businesses in the CBD to come on board to get the best out of this event.”

Ms Davy said anyone wanting to take part must register their interest by August 18.

The Labour Weekend Fiesta Street Food Festival will take place on Sunday, October 22 from 3.30pm to 7.30pm.
