Ute stolen from Awapuni Rd driveway

POLICE are on the lookout for a distinctive yellow Toyota Hilux that was stolen last night and the owner said the theft has disappointed him because he thinks it’s a bit of a Gisborne icon.

Boyd McGregor previously operated the Surfit fishing, shark cage and dive charter company, and the vehicle is clearly marked with the company name.

The four-wheel-drive ute was stolen from his home in Awapuni Road in the early hours of this morning.

“It’s a bit disappointing. It’s the first thing I’ve had stolen for 35 years from our home in Awapuni Road.

“I don’t operate the charter business any more but I have been very attached to the ute.

“I would like to think with the Surfit name on it, it’s a bit of a Gisborne icon.”

The vehicle was parked and locked in the driveway.

“They smashed a window and took it from there. It had a lot of my hunting clothing and kiteboard gear in it, so that’s gone too,” Mr McGregor said.

“It would be really nice to get everything back but I'm not holding my breath.”

By midday today police said Mr McGregor’s vehicle had not yet been recovered.
