Student injured in Nelson Rd collision

A STUDENT was taken to Gisborne Hospital for observation yesterday afternoon after he and a car collided in Nelson Road near Lytton High School.

Police, New Zealand Fire and Emergency and St John Ambulance responded to the incident at 2.35pm.

“The 12-year-old boy was crossing the road from Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Uri a Maui, where he is a student, when he was struck by a car,” an emergency services spokeswoman said.

“He only suffered minor abrasions because fortunately the car was travelling quite slowly at the time.

“He was transported to hospital by ambulance for observation and further treatment.”

Frefighters helped ambulance officers with the care of the boy and also controlled traffic.
