Call for support for Green Team

A CALL has gone out for Gisborne businesses to sponsor goods for a "goodie bag" for the cruise ship ambassadors, who will help lay out the welcome mat for cruise passengers this summer.

The cruise ship season starts here on December 27 when the regular caller Golden Princess comes into the Bay.

It will be the first of four visits by the Princess, with two other ships scheduled to call here this season, the Noordam and Crystal Symphony in the New Year.

“The 'Green Team', as we call them, have worked really hard in previous summers to make the cruise visits the success they are,” said Heart of Gisborne manager Lana Davy.

“They are a crucial part of what makes our port special for our visitors.”

She hopes retailers and other businesses will show their support for them by sponsorship of goods to fill a goodie bag for each of the ambassadors.

“We are seeking sponsorship, merchandise, food, drinks, vouchers and/or discounts, etc,” Ms Davy said.

“This is one way of showing gratitude to those who offer their time to show our cruise passengers just how unique, hospitable and friendly our city truly is.

“If you would like to be a part of this, please contact Mel Ma’afu Sinoti at the Gisborne i-SITE on 867 2000 or mel@gisbornenz.com or Lana Davy at the Heart of Gisborne on 868 3238, or manager@heartofgisborne.org.nz
