Man charged with murder of motorcyclist

A Porirua man has been arrested and charged with the murder of motorcyclist Don Henry Turei Junior, a police statement released today says.

Mr Turei was killed in a crash on State Highway 35, opposite the Raukokore Marae near Te Kaha, on November 26 last year.

The 39-year-old Porirua man will appear in Wellington District Court today.

This comes after two men, aged 32 and 33, were arrested earlier this year and charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder in relation to the death of Mr Turei.

Bay of Plenty field crime manager Detective Inspector Lew Warner said it had been a trying time for the family of Mr Turei.

“We hope that this additional arrest will help to bring relief to his whanau.”

Police investigations continue.
