Truck rolls in forest

FIREFIGHTERS and a St John ambulance were called to a forestry block off Maraenui Road in the Whareratas yesterday morning after a log truck tipped over in the forest.

Emergency services from Gisborne and Wairoa responded at 7.30am.

“The driver, a Gisborne man aged in his 50s, was transported to Gisborne Hospital with minor injuries,” an ambulance spokesman said.

“He was brought out of the forest to the highway where he was met by the ambulance crew.”

The driver was treated and discharged from hospital.

Fire crews from Gisborne and Wairoa were called out as well.

The Wairoa crew was stood down and the Gisborne crew stood by at the entrance to Maraenui Road until it was clear their services were not required.
