TWO men jointly charged with sexual offending against three young girls have appeared in Gisborne District Court.

Both men have name suppression, but Judge Warren Cathcart said it was only granted to protect the identities of the complainants.

The men, one of whom is represented by counsel Amanda Courtney and the other by counsel Michael Lynch, were each further remanded on bail without plea until January 26.

They will have to enter pleas on that day.

Ms Courtney’s client faces three counts of rape of a female under 12 and seven counts of unlawful sexual connection. He also faces a charge of assaulting a child.

Mr Lynch’s client is jointly charged with the rapes and six counts of unlawful sexual connection.

The alleged offending dates back to 2014.
