Young singers wanted for Uruwhetu2018

GISBORNE young people will get a chance to sing for a spot in te reo Maori singing project Uruwhetu2018.

Auditions will be held on Thursday at the Whirikoka campus of Te Wananga o Aotearoa.

The Uruwhetu project is the musical arm of Maori TV children’s programme Pukana. This year will see the creation of three Uruwhetu groups, who will create, compose, record and film a te reo Maori single for 2018.

Since 2000, Uruwhetu has produce a number of te reo Maori music singles, as well as forming singing group Maimoa, who had hits with Maimoatia and Wairua.

Auditions are open to rangatahi (youth) who are 13 to18 years of age and can speak fluent te reo Maori.
