An already busy cruise ship season in Gisborne next summer has got even bigger with 18 confirmed cruise ship visits scheduled from mid-November to the end of March.

The number of scheduled visits to Gisborne was originally 18 but it dropped back to 15 a few months ago.

“It’s great to see we are back up to 18 visits again,” said Gisborne cruise visit coordinator and Heart of Gisborne manager Lana Davy,

“There is always a bit of shuffling with the cruise ship companies as they move their itineraries to suit their passengers’ needs and the availabilty of ports.

“It’s going to be a big season for us, that’s for sure, and we are all geared up and looking forward to it,” Ms Davy said.

“It will be our biggest cruise ship summer by far in Gisborne.”

The Seabourn Encore has joined the schedule, with visits planned for January 20 and March 9.

Luxury cruise ship Encore, which has a capacity of 604 passengers and is part of the Seabourne Cruise Line, has been nicknamed the “sexiest ship on the sea”.

There will also be an extra visit by the Silver Muse, bringing its total to three.

Regular visitor Golden Princess will call in nine times.

The other visiting ships will be the Seven Seas Mariner (one visit), MS Maasdam (one) and the Azamara Quest (two).
