A Gisborne woman seriously injured in an alleged assault in her home in Kaiti last week is making progress in Waikato Hospital and is out of intensive care.

She suffered extensive injuries to her face and skull in the incident and was flown to Waikato Hospital.

“Latest reports from Waikato indicate she is progressing well and is now in a general ward,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Ford.

“Her 27-year-old former partner was remanded in custody, charged with causing grievous bodily harm, and he will appear again in the Gisborne court mid-June.”

Victim Support continues to support the woman’s family.
