NATHAN Coombs and David Ou combined to win the Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club’s handicap pairs title.

The champions topped a field of 11 combinations from which eight qualified — Larry Robinson and Te Rina Hawkins, Coombs and Ou, John Berry and Barry Jones, Kevin Kennedy and Bill Shaw, Alex Nanai and Busby Akuhata, Bill Raggett and Les Bryon, Tracy Pearce and Terry Casey, and Tony Murphy and Dave Middlemiss.

In the semifinals, Coombs and Ou beat Kennedy and Shaw 2-0 while Murphy and Middlemiss defeated Raggett and Bryon 2-1.

Coombs and Ou carried their form into the final to win 2-0.

The next major event is the Gisborne leg of the New Zealand masters series over Queen’s Birthday Weekend (June 1 to 3).
