Dr Sam Bush took a group of student leaders for a workshop at Central School last week.

Dr Bush, a paediatric registrar from Hawke’s Bay DHB gave the group an exercise where they had to imagine they were doctors trying to diagnose a sick baby by asking a series of questions.

The group are doing a programme called Empathy and Action Tuakana Services and will soon begin fundraising for a playground at Planet Sunshine — the children’s ward at Gisborne Hospital.

Director of The Aurora Education Foundation Sunny Bush said the idea behind the workshop was to lift the sights of children at an early age so they are open to higher learning pathways.
