Gisborne couple put their heads on The Block NZ

GO GIZZY: Gisborne couple Amy Moore and Stu Watts are Team Yellow, the first team ever to have made it on to The Block NZ from this region. The show airs on July 8, 7pm on Three. Picture supplied

Amy Moore and Stu Watts are in Auckland renovating a townhouse in front of film crews.

They are Team Yellow on The Block NZ — the first time anyone from Gisborne has made it on to the TV show.

Team Gizzy (they have T-shirts that say that) are competing against three other couples from around New Zealand for the title of The Block NZ 2018 winners.

The first to represent the region, they are also the oldest to have ever competed.

At 39 and 46 they are hardly “old” but if that is their point of difference, “bring it”, says Amy.

The couple are passionate and proud of their home town and are keeping it local, even in Auckland.

The building company they have hired for their renovations is owned by Gisborne man Izzy Whitley, and he has contracted Gisborne builders Dave Wallace and Paddy Looney to form Team Gizzy.

“Gizzy will love it,” says Stu.

“Everybody knows everybody. I think everyone will get right behind it.”

Amy is a beauty therapist who is as handy with a skilsaw as she is with wax.

Stu is a plumber who says his favourite hobbies are cars, footy and a couple of beers.

They live in Gisborne with their blended family and two cats.

They say the hardest part is absence from the kids but they will keep in touch with Face Time on their phones.

While the couple have started filming, we will have to wait until July 8 when the show premiers on Three at 7pm.

It will be fun to see how they fare, with the arduous task of working extremely long hours, with very little sleep . . . trying to organise themselves to the hectic pace of renovating a house, to sell to hopefully a willing vendor for a large sum of money . . . in my old stomping ground of West Auckland, in Hobsonville.

Best of luck to the both of them. Hope they do well and make their beloved Gisborne proud; go Amy and Stu!
