Samurai sword allegedly used in altercation

A man needed treatment in Gisborne Hospital’s emergency department on Saturday morning after he and another man were involved in an altercation that allegedly involved weapons, one of which was a samurai sword.

Police were alerted to the incident, that happened at a house on Back Ormond Road late Saturday morning.

“One man was arrested and he faces a range of charges, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” a police spokesman said.

“The other man, who was taken to hospital, was treated for his wounds and then discharged.”

A police inquiry into the incident continues.
