Gisborne in top three for spending rise

Gisborne continues to be in Paymark’s top three regions when it comes to spending money.

Shops in this region had more than double the national increase when it came to electronic transactions through eftpos machines during the month of July.

Paymark figures released for July 2018 show there was a 4.9 percent rise across New Zealand compared to the same time last year.

In Gisborne that increase was 11.9 percent — third highest in the country.

Paymark processes 75 percent of all electronic transactions through eftpos machines across the country.

In total, Gisborne shops swiped $42.4 million through eftpos machines associated with Paymark. The average spend was $42.

Topping the Paymark leader board for the regions were Wanganui at 12.3 percent and Marlborough at 12 percent.

The largest regions, Auckland/Northland, Canterbury and Wellington continued to show the slowest annual growth rates.

Spending in the smaller regions was growing at a strong pace, with the notable exception of West Coast.
