Word on the Street

Charlene Donald: "If they have heritage status, they should remain. We should protect our heritage."
Bryan Yager: "I’m up for the views. Get progressive."
Hilary Pickering: "I prefer the views. It’s like the Peel Street bridge, where you can see the views, the water and the kayaks."
Joanne Matete: "They should put the walls back up for the heritage value. We still need something old. We can’t have new all the time."
Maree Brownlie: "I like the historic value rather than the practical."
"Marika Avison I drive and cycle over the bridge daily. I like the views. The walls are too oppressive."
Rodney Mouat: "It looks nicer with the views. Leave the walls off."
Zoe Abbott: "I’d go for safety and heritage value. I like the walls."
Mark Goddard: "I like the views but not at the expense of the historic value of the walls. They could be used in the museum rather than just crushed up."
Patricia Ferris: "Waste of taxpayers’ money. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the bridge. I do like the view. Since I was a little girl I’ve tried to look over the sides."

“Would you like the concrete walls to be returned to the Gladstone Road bridge once the upgrade is finished, or would you prefer the sides are left open for the views?”

No to the wall. The scenery is too beautiful to block out. We don't have to repeat our mistakes.
