House at Ruatoria stripped by thieves during major refit

A team of builders from Hawke’s Bay were shocked this morning when they arrived at a house they were working on in Ruatoria, to find thieves had stripped the house of its whiteware and many fittings overnight.

The builders were refurbishing the Kararaina Avenue house for Housing New Zealand.

“We were absolutely gutted to discover what had happened when we arrived at the house this morning,” one of them said.

Thieves had removed all the whiteware inside, lights and other fittings, even the new panels in the bathroom.

“We understand Housing NZ had a tenant lined up for the home.”

The builders had electricians and a plumber lined up to install the whiteware today.

Police have an investigation under way.
