School caretaker bitten by a dog

A school caretaker was bitten by a dog just inside the Kaiti Primary School grounds yesterday morning.

Gisborne District Council animal control staff were called to the school at about 8.45am.

“The woman caretaker was bitten by a black-coloured Staffordshire bull terrier she encountered just inside the gate on the Aldred Street side of the school, off Endcliffe Road,” a council spokeswoman said.

The Herald was told the caretaker tried to send the dog away from the school property, but it turned around and bit her on her leg.

She did not need medical attention.

The rangers searched for the roaming dog yesterday morning and again in the afternoon, without success.

“So far we have not been able to identify the owner but our inquiries continue.”
