Well done, young mums

Firefighters Trudi Hicklin and Kelly Humphries (holding Atairehea Davoren) gave the kids a taste of the “hot seat” in a fire truck. It has been a busy but successful year for Te Whare Whai Hua Early Learning Centre and Young Parents School.

To mark the end of the school year and a job well done, whanau and staff put on a fun day for the centre’s kids.

A fire engine went to the Lytton High-based centre and Santa was also there as a lovely morning tea was enjoyed by all.

Te Whare Whai Hua curriculum leader Fiona Philip said the Christmas celebration had a wonderful feeling of completion for its teen parents.

“They have seen it through,” she said of the year.

“They have had the opportunity to continue studying and do what they needed to do while their children were being looked after. If they needed to breastfeed their children, or just touch base with them during the day, then they could do that.”
