Sewer main collapse closes street

Road Closed

A city street had to be closed yesterday following a sewer main collapse outside a house.

Wellington Street was closed at 10.35am and remained shut for the rest of the day as work crews tried to repair the sewer.

Gisborne District Council 4 Waters operations manager Neil Daykin said disruption would continue into the next week.

“We have had a break on the wastewater main down Wellington Street that has formed a tomo (void) below the road, hence the big hole in the road. We expect traffic disruptions into next week, including temporary road closures.”
