Alerted to crash by dog

A dog running down Back Ormond Road alerted a resident to a car accident some distance up the road this morning.

The car had left the road and ended up hanging over a ditch. The dog had left the car and was seen running down the road just after 7am by a woman who went to investigate.

Emergency services attended the crash, in which the male driver suffered minor chest injuries.

“We stabilised the vehicle which was teetering over the drain,” said Senior Station Officer Jason Higgins.

Fire and Emergency NZ staff stabilised the car by tying it to a fire appliance.

“It was a bit of work to get the driver out,” said SSO Higgins.

St John Ambulance staff took the driver to hospital for treatment.
